Whatever became of the 50/50 deal? :dunno: 2006-2012 the tribes got 68% of the Chinook and the commercial and sports guys got 32%. The tribes got 70% of the Coho and the commercial and sports got 30%. Something's wrong with the equation here, I didn't even take bonehead math and I can even figure it out. :bash:

Interesting, can you provide your source?

If you consider the fish that are supposed to return from Alaska and BC, but instead are caught by commercial fleets before they ever get near their home rivers in Washington; then the tribes and state fisherman only get a small percentage.  I've read a few estimates in the past saying about 80% of Chinook bound for Washington are caught up there.  But no way for WDFW to really fight Alaska/BC on the issue.  Again corporations shafting everyone else.

Another reason for closure to area 10 could be area 11 and 13 guys complaining. I know that's part of the reason why they shortened the length of area 9/10 last year to August 14 or whatever it was.

Ever sence area 9 and 10 opened and the puyallup tribe cut back Chinook stock a few years ago, area 11 and 13 have been a ghost town compared to the years previous.

South sounders had to travel north to catch fish. We trailer to Port Townsand every weekend. Im excited to see how or if it improves this year were I live.

By Aug 14th, our Chinook fishing has usaully already slowed. We do get to start a month and a half early, but there isnt much going on till Mid July.

To lighten the conversation, the silver run is supposed to be better than last year.  Hope we can keep some wilds still like last year up in area 5,6.

8 day kill on natives this year.

Yeah now for people like my dad, he'll have to travel either north or south to fish... like he had to years ago when Area 10 was closed for years.  Pretty much a bum deal to be shutting down Area 10 for people in the Bremerton area.  Are they going to keep the Sinclair Inlet fishery open like they did in the past in the 90's and early 2000's?  We might have to start fishing that again.

Sinclair has been open every year for the last few. And should still open this year. That's a pure hatchery run in an area that has no impact on any other run. It's a decent fishery with a derby every year. We took 6th 3 years ago and first 2 years ago.

We fish dolphin and south worth mostly, but also trailer to Gig Harbor too.

Yeah we used to fish Gig Harbor and Sinclair Inlet when Area 10 was closed back in the day.  Just so much easier to launch the boat at Brownsville when we're 5 minutes from it.  We've had Jeff Head dialed in pretty well on the different spots that produced there, time to relearn Sinclair again haha.  Last time I fished there was maybe the summer after 9/11, do they still have the military boats patrolling that shoreline by the ferry to make sure boats fishing don't get too close or has that gone away?

I am hearing 8 days in Sept. and more in October (maybe the entire month) :dunno:

I'm sure the nets will still be out in Sinclair down near Gorst

That's correct, since the tribe started that run and it impacts nothing else.

I know that, just sucks is all, and is bad PR
I have been paying Puget sound enhancements and fishing here for over 35 years.
its never getting any better if we continue to net the runs, rivers and pound the commercial aspect of it.
5 years moratorium on all fishing and it would be excellent again
