Wood ducks

So I'm looking for some info on where I need to go to bag wood duck this year. Not sure how much longer I'm going to be in the state so I'm looking to get one so I can mount him. I'm up north on Whidbey island

I have shot a bunch of wood ducks on the east and west side. From what I've found they aren't a lazy mans bird you gotta get off the beaten path. Find wooded isolated creeks, rivers, lakes, or ponds and scout them. Good luck.

I've always wanted a wood duck mount, it's been a bucket list of mine. But, they are so damn cool looking, I'm starting to feel bad about killing them???  What the heck, I'm a hunter and these things are so cool I don't want to kill them.

Yakima River from Prosser to Richland is loaded with them, I would assume that they are reasonably plentiful further upriver as well.  I know of one spot in particular where it's not uncommon to see 40 birds (+/- 10) at any given time.

We always shoot them in Oct. and early Nov. at Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge.
Last season was weird, they stayed all year. Got some big ones too.

Our 50 minute 5 man open morning limit. Took some scouting and camping but it paid off. I'd start your search just east of Yakima.

The later the better for full plumage on wood ducks. That said the mouth of the Walla Walla River is a good spot to harvest one.

Badhabit that is a beautiful wood duck. Mounter for sure.
