AR parts for build?
«
on:
April 20, 2015, 06:22:02 PM »
I just started a thread on the ca15. Then I got to thinking it might be cool to build one instead. Then realized I have no idea what all the parts are that I'm going to need. If I were to build one I'd like to do it all the way through instead of getting a upper already built same goes with a lower. I'd really like to put everything together myself. So with that said what will I need and who makes good stuff and bad parts. Thanks guys

If you were on this side of the mountains I would say Stans in Wenatchee. Most parts can be had in one fatal swoop. From spring kits to Blackhole barrels, with some of the best prices on them. You can save a little bit if you shop around online and wait for parts to arrive. Also ,helps to find someone to come aside and show you, hands on, how to properly put one together. Good luck, and be sure to post your results!

We have uppers, loweres, hg's, barrels, Bolts and carriers, small parts kits, etc etc. If we don't have it Loyals should.
http://www.loyalsguns.com/
Feel free to pm me with and questions.
I also have a set of vise blocks, a wrench and headspace gauges you can borrow whether you buy from us or not.
The shop is in Rainier, but I live in Grapeview if you need anything or have any questions.

I jut finished building another one.
Bought my parts from different manufacturers online.
You will need an upper and lower receivers, Lower receiver kit, bolt carrier group,(BCG), charging handle, barrel, barrel nut, handguard, gas block, gas tube, flash hider, upper kit(port cover, forward assist...) butt stock + buffer and spring.
tools:
Vise block for the upper receiver
Barrel nut wrench
Torque wrench
Go & No go gauges (up to you; I did not use one)
Sugguestion: Assuming your building a 223/5.56
LRB Arms forged lower from Wideners reloading $45 + shipping. (tell them you do not agree with their shipping cost and they adjust). Find an FFL that would transfer for $20 -25 Northwind Firearms will do it for $20.
Palmetto State Armory for Lower parts kit (LPK) $44.99 + shipping
Nickle Boron BCG $109.99 + shipping
Upper receiver stripped $39.99+ shipping
MidwayUSA or Brownells for handguard, barrel nut, gas block, upper receiver kit,(port cover, forward assist, etc) and tools
Greenmountain rifle barrel for the barrel of course 20" Chrome lined mil spec $167.99 +shipping.
Amazon for gas tube and flash hider.
Cheaperthandirt for an A2 stock $44 complete with buffer and spring shipped.
My build was under $600 including all the shipping. CA15 will definitely cost more.
Have decided on what caliber to build?
223/5.56
7.62x39
.308
5.45x39

You'd be surprised at the deals you can get on ebay.

Commando if I may suggest go with a 223 Wylde chamber. Will shoot both 556/223 but has a tighter chamber and known for better accuracy than standard mil spec.

Blacklab has a great suggestion about 223Wylde.
For the barrel buy one that has the barrel extension already installed; most barrels you can buy has them already, but some don't Also get a barrel that has a 1-8 twist for heavier bullets.
You can also purchase a book from Amazon "AR15 Complete Assembly Guide" by Walt Kulec & Clint Mckee. This book will take you to a step by step process how assemble and disassemble the rifle.

My recommendation do NOT buy an anderson lower parts kit. I bought a pair off Ebay and both had issues of some kind. And the trigger on them bleh. Milspec is one thing but they were both pretty nasty.
Lot of good recommendations already. Ebay can get deals, but also allot of china real cheap stuff, even when it says ships from us. That said I just completed a pair of lower most of which came off ebay. They work but I can tell the difference even from cheap parts you would get from Palmetto, midways etc. and I am far from a AR coniseur..
MidwayUSA, palmetto both run sales watch for those. ($40 for a stripped upper is AWESOME!) Ton of others as well.
Sportsmans just had a sale on BCG's, <$90 shipped:
http://www.slickguns.com/product/smith-wesson-heavy-bolt-carrier-group-8099
Brad's guns in Bonney Lake a ways away but I am sure someone up north has similar cheap lowers) just got in Anderson stripped lowers for $50. I like the anderson lowers as the logo is nice and subtle after coating and they have a built in enhanced trigger guard.
