Interesting and unexpected yote experience today *update*
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:45:15 PM »
I went to scout a new deer spot today on some nearby land in Pierce County.  While hiking back i got about half a mile in and all of a sudden all hell broke loose.  About 50 yards to my front left came a yip yip howl.  2 seconds later came a response from front right about the same distance.  Then another response from far far away behind me.  What did i walk into?  I left without incident but the howls went on for 2 to 3 minutes as i was backing out with my side arm drawn.  Did they have a kill, just being territorial, or what was it?

You just walked into a area and they did not know that you were there. Coyotes talk a lot and right at sun up and sun down they are very vocal. They were probably out hunting and separated and were just checking in with each other.

Sounds like a warning howl/bark  I hear that sound just about every time I get busted.  They saw you and had to let all the buddy's  know there is danger.  Often barks or yips fallowed by short sharp howl. Also often repeated a few times.  Jme

Ears don't seem right for a yote.  Kinda fat too maybe?

I was thinking not hairy enough ears and not quite big enough.

I've seen quite a few dogs on this cam, just never this one if it is a dog.

Funny.  The first picture you'd say, "coyote for sure."  Second one you'd say, "dog for sure."  If it's up to no good, shoot it and find out.

I need to move this cam farther in.  Too many dogs.  Got yotes on 2 other days, and lots of deer when they show up (when 1 deer shows up, 4 or 5 more are with it).  I just think it's too close to the dirt road to get consistent action.
