Idaho Mt Goat
« on: April 26, 2015, 08:50:40 AM »
Anyone ever draw a tag and get to hunt goat in Idaho? I have been trying to draw a tag for several years with no luck. I havent done much research to be honest just look at the harvest data and draw odds to pick my unit. Anyone have any input on what they have done or seen? Tks

Think I might go w elk deer this year but in future years I'll probably try for goat and moose.  Can you only pick one oil per year? or if you can float the bill can you apply for all oil tags?

You can only apply for one oil species.

Yes you can only apply for one OIL which is what helps the draw odds. I have my money order and app setting here just hoping for a last minute revelation so I can fill it out and mail it in tomorrow.

:yeah: Someone has to draw the non-resident goat tags. I'm in for moose, so best of luck to you on pulling a goat tag.

I think 3004 was my first choice and 3016 was my second choice,  but I let my hunting partner choose. I think he put in for 3001 and 3008, so we were just trying to spread out and up the odds that one of us might draw a tag. We both put in for region 4 last year, but we were just trying to play the numbers game this year to up our odds of actually drawing a tag. Who knows, maybe one of us will get lucky like you! ;)

Pretty sure it's pointless to put in a second choice. There draw is different than ours.

I have seen goats in the unit I hunt deer in. Its one of the harder ones to draw but if you did draw I would definitely point you in the right direction. May even tag along and help if you needed

Nice!  Is there a wait after you draw an oil?  Or could you draw every year if your very lucky?  Is there even a wait in Washington between oil tags?

If it's "Once in a Lifetime," you can't ever apply again, if you harvest an animal. That's why people refer to them as OIL, or Once in a lifetime tags.

That's how it is in Washington anyway. Are you thinking if an animal is NOT harvested?

Oh good to know.  I figured oil was referring to the chances of ever being drawn.  As in you probably only ever draw one.  So in WA you can only ever kill one moose goat or sheep.  What about Idaho is it the same one only per species in your life?

And if I don't kill an animal then is there a wait in  ID or WA?

In idaho there is a 2 year waiting period if you draw and do not harvest but that waiting period only applies to the species you draw.

Goat are once in a lifetime, you can do one cow moose and one bull moose in a lifetime and sheep you can do one California and one rocky mt. Bighorn

And that's per state right?
