Leupold VX-R??
« on: March 03, 2015, 09:16:07 PM »
A few older threads on the VX-R's but nothing recent that I can find.

Anyone using one?  If so what are the pros and cons?

If the illuminated dot is not activated, do you still have a good cross hair?

Will be buying a new scope in the coming days and am debating between the VX-R and VX-3.  I know I like the VX-3 but am very intrigued by the VX-R.

Thanks in advance

I don't personally use one but have been around the scopes alot and like them...it's amazing how fast your eye is drawn to that dot...this November my hunting partner left his on for 4 days straight and it's still going strong...really great for darker shots (hopefully legal ones) and especially older eyes that have a hard time focusing on cross hairs

My next scope will be a vx6 with this fire dot option

My friend has one and he absolutely loves it.  I was in the market for one, but went a different direction.  You will love it.  Without the light on the crosshairs are still crisp and very nice.  You will not be disappointed.  VX-R is awesome at an unbeatable price for what it offers.
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

Pulled the trigger yesterday and bought one from cabelas.  I had 250 in gift cards so that kept he price pretty low for cash out of pocket.  I will update when I get it and have a chance to use it.

I had inquired to their customer service about these scopes. I got a response back that I needed to email tech support (instead of simply forwarding me email). I emailed them and never received a response, so I bought a new Steiner GS3 2-10X48. The pricing comparison was a savings on the Steiner of about $150. There's no lighted reticle, but there are cascading stadia for wind correction. The glass is super clear and has Color adjusted Transmission coating, which is supposed to make mammals stand out against foliage, although not IR. On a funny side note, I emailed Steiner two weeks ago about some ballistics questions on their stadia and haven't received a response back yet. No response from either company on email. Boggles my mind how a modern company can do that.

Yeah, seems to be an theme with most companies now days.   :bash: :bash:  I picked up a VX-R in a local store and played with it a bit.  I really liked how small the illuminated dot was.  I was worried it would be to bright or big....which I did not want.  Needless to say it was very small and very crisp.  You can adjust the brightness for the situation.  I went with the 4-12x44 in the balistic plex reticle.  I will give a thorough review when I have had a chance to use it.  It was a hard choice.....between the VX-r and the proven VX-3.  Hope I don't regret it.   :chuckle:

Everyone with VX-R's that I've talked to love them.  If you are ever trying to get a hold of Leupold, the best way (I've found) is to call them.

Maybe I should have called. Email takes moments, especially when my phone's ringing during the day. And since they have email on their website for sales and customer service, they should answer emails or get rid of it. I found it surprisingly unprofessional from either company when you consider the amount of money one item costs. If one of our clients doesn't get responded to immediately by email, the responsible salesman gets a ration.

That way here too, heck we have had outside sales people and customers call back complaining when we did not get them an answer back in 1hr, let alone just not answer..

Let s know how the scope works for you!

I understand completely, and a lot of times it is easier to explain a question in an email vice directly over the phone.  I just have had better luck with Leupold by calling...

On a side note Burris customer service covers Steiner.  They are both owned by Berretta now.

I've found both Burris and Leupold customer service (for warranty repair work) to be outstanding without the usual run-around (like Bushnell for example) on repair work.  Just my experience.  By the way how do you like that Steiner scope?

Jrebel I bought one last year. I absolutely love it. From what I read online it basically a vx-3 with a fire dot. You won't be disappointed.

It's a beautiful scope. Once I have the gun to put it on, I'll know even more! We're a couple of weeks out yet. Of course it's a friend of mine who's getting it since I saw the light and sold all of my guns on Dec. 3rd last year. They're dangerous, you know. That's what Bloomy told me.

I had a 3-9x VX-R on my LMT MWS. It was pretty good for the price. Can't really ask for more. It suited my needs on that platform out to 600-700 yards
