220 swift

Anybody play around with these? I just snagged up a Rem 700 Varmint sf 220. Pretty pumped! Let me know what you guys think of yours!

Had one about 20 years ago. Fast flat shooter. Brass is expensive.

Great chambering, shot a Rem700 VSSF for awhile. Ended up ditching it for a custom in 6mm Remington, allot more horsepower and reach. Plus the hits on Rockchucks were way more spectacular with the 6mm Remington and the 75gr V-Max's as compared to anything the .220 could launch. Sold the 6 Rem to fund a custom .257 DGR and I really enjoyed that rifle. After that I never shot anything under 6.5 bore unless it was on a AR platform.

Love mine shoots flat, hits hard i have around 3000-3500 rounds through mine and still shoots bug holes at 100 yards so dont listen to people who are going to tell you its a barrel burner. I can buy brass all day long for $52.00 a 100 all day long.

Have had 4 in my lifetime. All Rugers of one persuasion or another..an awesome caliber for chucks and prairie dogs. Explosive on them at over 4000fps! You know when you hit them! Quite a few coyotes and several bobcat fell to these rifles over the years, but with the price for pelts in the late 70's and early 80's, i opted for more mild cartridges for collecting furs.. Varget and 40gr ballistics make a hard to beat chuck gun out to 500-600 yards! Enjoy, and post some results!!

had a Ruger so chambered for a bit. very accurate. clovers at 200 yards. only sold it off to build my 22-243 with the right twist for heavier slugs. people always giving advice about slowing it down a bit but I always answered that you don't by a swift to slow it down.

 Love mine!  Issues with brass stretching and split necks on reloads but not too bad. Worst problem with most 220s is the slow twist barrel. Had stabilization problems at much over 55gr.

Next plan is to rebarrel with a slightly faster barrel in .220 Weatherby Rocket (220 improved essentially).

I Have been shooting one for 15 years killed a lot with it! My load now is a 40gr vmax and 40 grains reloaded 15 at 4200fps

Im shooting 52 gn A-max over 40 grains of H-380 in a 1-14 twist

I've heard about that setup and the AI. I heard it just turns the swift into an even bigger monster. Maybe someday

Great cartridge, great for varmints and coyotes, works well on deer and antelope in other states where legal.

I've been considering a 220 Swift Ackley Improved build for some time.  Good to see there's still quite a few Swift fans around.
