This is not my daughters 1st deer but it is her 1st buck. We saw several deer on Saturday morning and a number of bucks that were either too far away or too small (2x2s). We put a stalk on a stud of a mule deer that was in the tall grass but just showed his head and antlers. Our host (Kurt) and her stalked within about 150 yards before the big buck busted out and went to the other side of the canyon and bedded down in the tall grass. We dropped down the side hill to where we were within about 350 yards of where the buck was last seen. Kurt decided to make a move on the buck and we stayed back waiting for the buck to stand up. Well he did not just stand up when Kurt got close he busted out on the run and all we could do was watch him bounce away. We decided to make our way over the ridge into another basin. Kurt and my daughter Andria (15 years old) dropped down into the draw and I and Kurt's partner Randy took the ATVs to a spot where we were going to pick them up. Not long after we arrived we heard 3 shots and then a follow up shot. Andria came up over the rise from the direction of the shots and waved us down. We went and picked her up and she confirmed that she got a buck. Proud dad.

On his first high hunt in the Chelan unit for drop camp. My dad and I have made this trip several times and my son has always been waiting to go. Open morning we came over a ridge and he spotted this guy on his own glassing down the hill.. "Dad, I think I see a deer.." Stupid dad glassed quickly and didn't see it, but he was insistent. I glassed again and saw antlers and enough points to give him the green light. There is nothing like spotting your son while he takes his first shot at his first deer through your own scope sitting right next to him. He was ecstatic! all he could see was back of the neck and head laying away down hill at 175yds. Great deer and great shot! It was like shooting my first deer all over again. Grandpa was up the hill about 300yds and got to come down and enjoy the moment. Three generations on the same drop camp since 1988.. Special thanks to Brian Varrelman, a great family friend and guide who took us in for the drop.

My Grandson got this nice buck on opening day of the Late Season. He has hunted deer for past two years and came close a couple of times but no luck This year we were out at first light opening morning. About 11:00, this guy came walking down hill right toward him. He did a great job of staying calm and waited for a good shot to present itself. One shot right thru the lungs from his dad's .270 put it down. The deer only ran about 30 yards and fell over. Pretty nice first buck!! When I got to him, I told him he may hunt a long time before getting another buck any better than this one. He did a great job dressing it out and skinning it. We caped it out and his dad agreed to have it mounted. He is 15 years old and pretty proud of his first deer. Grandpa is very proud to have helped him off to a good start!!

Great deer Grizman!! He and my son are the same age and they set the bar high. That is a really good looking deer, I'd be ecstatic with that myself. Congrats to you and your grandson.

Daughters first archery buck, she has a few deer with a rifle but this is her first with a bow. Second photo is her first elk. Pretty stellar year for her and only 13 years old.
