PNW NAVHDA training day report
« on: May 05, 2015, 08:47:12 AM »
Had a great day Sunday prepping some young dogs for an upcoming natural ability test. In 2 weeks many will be completing the natural ability test, a 20 minute field search for chukar, tracking a pheasant, and swimming after a duck. I was in the field portion of the test, showing folks how to quarter their dog, how to bring out a firm point, that kind of stuff. We were able to utilize a members homing pigeons as well as chukar in our portion, so each dog was able to see 8-12 birds each in just our field, a treat for some new owners/dogs.

We also helped the owners with a water/swimming exposure, and a pheasant track, though I was busy in the field and have no photos to share of that. Just figured the Summer training season is on it's way and some of you may enjoy some 'doggy school' photos.

Morning run down. What a day to spend in the sun!

That looks like a lot of fun.  My 16 month old Griff loves to play with birds. She pointed birds for me last fall.  How often do you do the schooling?  Where?

Hi Diane. Lots of Griffon owners in our chapter  The 'official' training days aren't that often, though many of us get together and train on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I'm doing something at home everyday from 10-30 minutes, with more in depth work on the weekends myself.

The property we hold some of these training days and tests at is in Silver Creek/Cinebar, Wa very near Mayfiled Lake.

We have a test in a couple of weeks, May 15-17th, if you'd like to go for a visit to watch some dogs work and chat folks up you're more than willing to join us. Directions, times, etc. are on our website here: http://www.pnwnavhda.org/
