Favorite Compact 1911
« on: May 05, 2015, 12:02:45 PM »
I am looking at purchasing a new 1911 compact. I plan on trading in a older SA Ultra compact and haven't decided what to replace it with yet. I am leaning towards a SIG ultra two tone or the Kimber ultra Stainless. However and I know this sounds dumb, but Im buying myself a full size Kimber TLE for my birthday this year  :chuckle: so I kinda don't want to have a second Kimber (I know Im nuts :bash:). But I'm a collector too so I like to have variety. So any thoughts on the SIG 1911's or is there a favorite of yours that maybe I missed.

This is what I would buy and honestly I don't think I could buy the parts and build a custom pistol for the price.

I have a full size SIG TACOPS 1911, I love it, sweet shooting gun for sure eats everything I throw in it. My cousin has a SIG subcompact 1911 that he loves as well no issues, I haven't had the opportunity to shoot his yet.

IMHO can't go wrong with a Kimber or SIG as well as many others..... Decisions..... Decisions....  :chuckle:

does the p238 count for you? almost a 1911 and ver very compact.

Not in this case although its 1911 esque. I'm not a 1911 purest by any means but I like them in .45 non the less. When I bout the SA my wife sort of lade claim to it, I told her about trading it in to which she replied "as long as you replace it with something similar". so compact 1911 .45 it is. as far as .380's though I do have my sights set on S&W body guard  :chuckle:.

 :yeah:....as most do!

I have the Ultra Carry II (SS) and find it both very reliable and much more easily carried than any of the larger offerings.  Better yet......I've experienced none of the issues oftentimes attrituted to the more compact .45's.

I also don't limp wrist nor run dirty (unnecessarily so) guns.

I know you said you wanted to stick with a .45, and you said no to the Sig P238, but there is always the Sig P938. 9mm compact 1911'ish...

I  like it but like I said I want to stay .45.

Couldn't agree more. I have wanted a 5" TLE for YEARS but something else has always come up or fallen in my lap and it was just to good to refuse. I recently set my sights in the Springfield TRP but I just cant justify the extra $500 for it...THATS ANOTHER GUN!!!! if it was the difference of a couple hundred bucks I would be all over that like white on rice, a glass of milk and a paper plate in a snow storm! but I think I would rather save the $500 buy the Kimber and use the other $500 for the ultra compact I want lol. So many decisions!

+1 for the Sig Sauer.  I have a Sig 1911 Nightmare Carry.  It is an amazing gun.  I like the in between size of the 4" barreled 1911's.  Full size frame, but a little lighter and easier to carry than the full size.  Although, I have shot Kimber 1911's too and don't think you can go wrong with either Sig or Kimber.

I feel the sig 938 is a very nice handgun.  at 15 ounces it is a nice carry and the 9 mm ammo is affordable.  mike w
