Saw 2 this morning while turkey hunting
« on: May 08, 2015, 03:00:57 PM »
Well was out turkey hunting in the Teanaway.  Did a really nice setup.   Plenty of turkey sign from prior weekend.   Out before first light.  Doing light calls.   About 7:30 or so did a set of yelps.  5 minutes layer I caught movement 100 plus yards at the wood line across the field not turkeys but thought they were deer.  Cool.  Nope coyotes going parallel to us.   Saw or decoy turn and head towards us.  I am hunting with a member from the forum.   We were sitting at a very wide tree.  He was on one side I was on the other doing the calling.  When they turn to us.   I glass them.  Hey those don't look like coyotes to me.  So I am calling Paul do you see this.   They keep coming and I am loudly whispering Paul hey Paul 30 yards.  Paul finally answers, he had gotten up and was standing behind the tree because he couldn't feel his rear end anymore.   He got out his phone and stayed video.  I had my shotgun up and safety off.  20 yards the big one turns up a road that goes behind us.  I noticed a collar on itthe second looks really young maybe not a year old guess what collar on it too.  Not a regular dog type collar but the size of a GPS tracking collar.  Paul has video so I hope he sees this and posts it for your guys opinion looked to me like they were wolves.  I wouldn't think that coyotes have collars on them.

The best way to identify a wolf is to shoot it first :o
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Thanks for sharing, unfortunately this has become normal in the last few years, the deer populations have plummeted and no one seems to care

Hey Russ,
I'm going to make some loops through areas by North Bend, see if I find any woof sign.

My brother was there last weekend and saw some deer running away from some. Never saw the wolves but deer running all over at full speed and then found a few set of wolf tracks. Is that up the middle fork?

I wondered when this would happen, I honestly figured it would happen further east than you were Russ. Makes me real excited to take my kids out  :yike:. If that were me and one of my kids I may not have been so composed and I doubt I would be able to get my kid out there again. Great video for what it is and while I great story I hoe to never be so lucky  :bdid:.
