Gobbler #2 w my boy!!!!!!
« on: May 09, 2015, 09:54:56 AM »
Just shot this 27 lb. Tom w my 8 year old son Elijah. His smile says its all, what a fun hunt we will both never forget. Secound shot with my new Remington 870, 2 shots 2 kills, season over in 6 hours of total hunting!! 30 yard shot. I took his measurements and scored him on the free NWTF scoring calculator, Score= 67.17. Called in 2 Toms and we were in the blind together. After 30 min of them strutting and gobbling, I snuck out of the back of the blind and shot the biggest one of the two. My son said, "Dad, that was the coolest hunt ever!" I said, "Son, any hunt with you is the coolest hunt ever." He is now the hunter to carry on the family name, and the 4th generation. I think I helped create another LIFE LONG HUNTER. Glad your son could be a part of it.  You must have big birds in your part of the woods, 18.5lb jake and 27lb tom.  That is heavy.

Ya, im thinking their so big this year because of the mild winter, and the neighbor feeds them corn all the time. They were both stuffed with cracked corn. I was quite suprised myself at the weights. Usually the average 15 for jakes-22 to24 on toms. What can i say
say besides the good lord was in my corner this year.
