Anybody been to IBO national shoots?
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:25:34 AM »
I'm thinking pretty seriously about going to the three IBO National Triple Crown shoots and the World Championship this year.  I'm wondering if anybody on here has been to these shoots to give me an idea about the daily routines, number of shooters, pressures and conditions, etc.  Basically I'm starting to prepare for the mental part, but I don't know what to prepare for.

Any help or advice out there?

there is no way to prepare mentally other then really shooting in them, the pressure is no where near what it is indoors..... 3ds are much much easier.....

Been to both....No different than any other shoot, just more people....You just have to look at any shoot that way, be yourself and don't think about it.....If you do you'll be your own worse enemy.... ;)

Good to hear guys, thanks.  I booked the flight, hotel and rental car for Worlds in New York.  Anybody on here looking to cut their costs a little by splitting the room and car?  Aug. 12-17 for both; your half would be $320 total.

No shoots yet, but I'm planning on not missing so many shots that I don't qualify at least once.  I had fun in the HC last year and did well enough, but I haven't decided which of the classes to shoot in this season. (I do know that I'm not as good as you pros!)  I'm thinking AHC or MBR would suit me just fine.

Todd, last year at the first leg on the IBO triple crown in Spokane there was 6" or more snow and a complete whiteout.  Anything can happen at that first shot.  You shouldnt have a problem qualifying if you shot much, seems like the second and third leg, theres really not as many people as the first.

I shot the three Triple Crown shoots last year and the State Championship shoot in Black Diamond and had a blast at each.  My feeling is that HC had a very poor showing in each of the shoots.  If I can get third in the TC and win the state shoot in my first year, then either the class is not respected enough by the good shooters to encourage their participation or I am doing better than I think.  I really don't think it's the latter reason, so going to a shoot where I have to shoot well to qualify is my main reason for thinking about switching classes.

I've been bowhunting for 23 years, but hunting doesn't count too much when judging yardage and trying to get within 1 yard to be accurate enough to be highly competitive in the 3D world.  I try hard to do the things that I think it takes; I shoot unmarked 3D and blank bale pretty much every day and work out with archery related exercises on a regular routine, but it would be nice to know what the guys that win at the national level are doing for their preparation.  I figure the best way to find out is to go over there and shoot against them.

Hoyt, let me know if you're serious about sharing the car and hotel.  I posted a notice on the bulletin board in the archery shop, and I'll pull that if you are ready to commit.  I've got the tickets already purchased and am going whether I qualify or not.  ;)
