how i skin an elk in true redneck fashion
« on: May 13, 2015, 12:17:06 PM »
so I posted this in 2011 on how I skin an elk. works very well and you can do hanging or laying it down... I had seen it done on deer and decided to try... I have since gone to chainsaw legs at knees as well, under 5 minutes to hanging..

Nope, we may need to be facebook buds for me to watch it. Can you just post it up?

I think Pman is correct. Is it set for public viewing?

Looks easy, but I actually enjoy hanging my animals if possible and skinning with a knife. Have a few celebratory beverages and some great conversations.

the only cuts are hoof off, and chest to neck, ring around neck. I get a piece of what ever is avail (wood) make a couple cuts in hide, wrap around with wood to increase area. Neck attached to whatever tree or truck pull point, yes even suspended in air would work if pecker pole can handle the tug.... doesn't have to be warm but that makes easier to work with. we had to skin 4 animals that day, after dragging. carting and humping the gangs critters out from different areas, we were all quite tired. The last critter was a "you got to be shi**ing me!" guys cracking that beer after they were done moment when the last hunter was walking back out of camp, within sight of camp.... this was my solution... 4 hanging skinned in under 30 minutes....

If you have a winch and straps, its easy. I am making a tray this season to attach to any vehicle receiver hitch point.

Only caution point! don't get crazy pulling! go slow if its cold, the neck may not handle the tug if you really take a turn......

Maybe this fall I will make a video of the cart/mushers... how we work an animal with that as a sled dog team....

been using that method for years on deer, small bucks or capes that I don't intend to keep I cut between antlers and ears and cut the ears free of the skull and that is my "knob" to tie to so the rope don't slip. comes off like he had zippers!
