The Thrill Is Gone - B.B. King: 1925-2015
« on: May 15, 2015, 01:27:05 AM »
B.B. King is no longer with us.  Passed away Thursday in Las Vegas. He was 89 years old.

I had the opportunity to have a meet and greet with him years ago in Chicago.  It wasn't but for a few precious moments and pleasantries, but I was left with a warm hearted feeling about the man.  Really seemed like a graciously kind man with a sense of humility not often found in a person of such celebrity status.  Certain to never be another one like him.

R.I.P. Mr. King.  And thank you for all the wonders our ears have enjoyed.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Sad day!  I was fortunate to meet him along with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vaughan and Ron Laster (James Brown's guitarist) and got guitar pics from all of them back in the late 80's.  B.B. King was a true gentleman and would sit down and talk to you like he had known you all of his life.  He is leaving a huge hole in the world of blues!

Here is a really cool Rolling Stone article about Lucille...or the Lucilles'.  Night club fire and how she got her name is ripe for an upcoming movie.

I was lucky enough to meet him in the late 70s while I was stationed in DC. What a very nice man to a young musician. Sad to see him gone.

Got to see him on a hazy Friday night in Memphis.  Couldn't believe I was rocking out on Beale listing to a legend... he will be missed.  Does he get buried with Lucille?  I can't imagine anyone else thinking about playing it.

Watched Joe Bonamassa at the Paramount last night! What a show. That guy is awesome! Opened for BB king at the age of 12. Gave BB King credit for opening the door to his career.
