I hear the area around McCall is good, especially if you only can make one trip. Or try the edge of the Frank church, early rifle tag and I know guys who hike in for a day and get bulls.

We are heading into the church with elk, deer and wolf tags in our pockets.

Sweet thanks for all the help, I can't wait to get over there.  We will probably take a scouting trip in April and summer time to get a lay of the land and find a camp spot.

April might be to early.  I would hold off till July so you shouldn't have to worry about roads being open or not.  Anything over 5000 will likely be snowed in.  Last year we got into the mountains early (June over 5000 feet), but this year we have a bit more snow.

I'm going to hunt out of state this year, too. If Washington is going to continually attack me way of life, I guess I'll spend my money and time in other states. I've wanted to hunt elk & bear in Idaho for many years, this year I'm going to.

So reading this thread I guess scouting most higher elevations this spring over that way is not advised, anyone ever look at unit 22&23 in the spring ?

It's too early in the year, I think. I wouldn't expect them to be in the same place as the fall.

I wouldn't be going in the spring to locate elk necessarily, I'm going cause I've never seen the land before and would like to get an idea of were good elk habitat is.  Instead of going in blind during the season.

That's not a bad idea. You can bring a Gezzateer and mark down things like trails, water, beds, etc.
