My buddy's dad had a bull tag 2 years ago he took an average 6x6 first day he hunted. Must have been luck   :chuckle:

I have two hunting buddies that drew rifle tags 8-10 years ago. They only saw a couple of elk but they did see another hunter who was successful

Son and I had the rifle cow tag last year.  A few elk were taken, but we only saw elk one day out of the 8 I was up there, the fog rolled in and we could not see to get on them.  Found a couple promising deer spots.  TIRES, make sure you have some good heavy 10 plies and carry spareS if you get off the major roads.  I went and got some used ones to run up there and was glad I did.  If you do draw PM me, will be glad to share what I learned.

Spend time learning the areas where you live.  Tons of elk there.  That's exactly what I'd do if I just wanted my first elk.

Understood.  I was just offering that your best bet to kill your first elk may be in your backyard.

not counting chickens before hatch but considering my first choice with 9pts was silver dollar for a cow im going tp get my first elk. from what i heard of it its almost way to easy when my gandpa did it they set him up on a fence line between ranch and hanford  told me stories of  big bulls walking by and having to wait for a cow souned almost guided they take you out to the blind and everything

Ive spent alot of time in there.I think for deer it is a great unit but for elk not so much. Ive seen elk and some pretty nice ones but there few and far between. If you go the gaurds can sometimes point you in the right direction .My advise to you is go get a pass and spend a day looking around and shoot some coyotes. Every elk Ive seen has been within about a half mile from the river.

Makes me sick to think what the alkali has come to, damn sick.  I drew that unit twice for deer back in 2003 and 2004, big deer and lots of them.  Back then they had around 75 tags, now it's 4. (talking rifle deer). Thanks to the few Indians that raped and pillaged, one of the best deer units went right down the crapper.  Selfish B&*T$Rds.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
