Just follow the guys in the red Ford truck throwing Schmitty cans out the window and looking like Range Commando Charlie and his side kick Slim.  Those guys are awesome!  They are always headed up there to dump trash and pretend they are long range snipers.  You will know when you get to their spot as it's usually covered in spent brass, beer cans, Slim Jim wrappers, smells of urine and there will be 1,000 yards of trees with plastic coke bottles hanging from the branches.  It's quite the beautiful sight to see...Like Christmas morning!  Just be sure not to take your dog it will surely need stitches to the paws from all the broken Jägermeister bottles.

Are you looking for a formal range or just a general area for safe shooting in the hills?

Man, ain't that the truth. I know a couple places around there (and a few trucks!) that fit that description. And we wonder why people don't want us shooting on forest service land.

A friend wants to just do some safe shooting while camping at the lake.

Due to the camp grounds, hiking trails and ATV use I usually avoid doing any shooting up the Chiwawa road.  Usually find nice spots by heading more toward Plain.  The top of miners ridge has been a popular place ever since the big fire.  Have to watch for ATV riders up there too, but if you just drive around you should be able to find something with a good back drop and no nature hikers.

I have heard there are some good places south of hwy2, but I've never spent much time there so can't say.  I'd think if you guys just set out on a drive to watch for deer, bear and great scenery you will stumble upon a good safe spot.  And if you are lucky, a spot not filled with broken glass and heroin needles.  But, that might be asking just a little too much!

We are talking about the lake Wenatchee area right..... Sounds more like C-post road to me. Maybe C-post is the west side version. :chuckle:

Yeah, just pick up your trash, for some reason guys think their mother will come along and pick it up for them.  All their mother does is lock the gate so nobody can go there in the future.
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart

And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again

Easy getaway for the Wenatchee families and a popular spot for west siders too.  With that many people in the woods it's bound to happen.  We always take a garbage bag or two and take a lot more trash home than we brought.  Cool thing is, that even with all the traffic and bad behavior there are usually plenty of critters to see and some great hiking to be had.  We really like it over there.

Have fun and be safe

And the wildflowers are going crazy right now. Some areas are like a sea of lupine, and the Indian paintbrush is just starting to go off. Absolutely beautiful...if you're into flowers and stuff...which I'm not...because I'm a big burly man.
