First Bear Pictures of the Year
« on: May 23, 2015, 02:28:12 PM »
Bears must be getting active now. I've had this camera out for months. Lots of bears in this area (Lincoln GMU) and this is the first pictures so far this year. At least  I think it's a bear. Darn thing wouldn't get away from the camera so all you can see is black fur. But in at least one picture the ear gives it away.

I've also go an unidentified critter that I'll add to this thread. Only thing I can think of is bobcat? The color is washed out because it was close. Just going by the size of the tail it seems that it could be a bobcat. It seems to be to short to be a deer. Unless it's a newborn fawn but it seems just a little early for that. I'll put up all 5 pictures, and than a couple deer pictures for reference. Tell me what you think. Maybe it is a deer?   :dunno:

Looks like a deer to me, I had a bear get up my cameras face last year like yours did and ripped it right off the tree breaking the back off, so I had to build a lock box for that one, the bears are really active this year early since the winter over here was so mild,  had a bear and a cougar on the same day last month that was a first.

Yeah, the more I look at it the more it looks like a deer.

I was surprised the bear didn't damage the camera. Usually it seems like they will try to pull it down off the tree. This camera is mounted really low too, about 18 inches off the ground.

That's pretty low, I move mine around a lot trying for the best places with out shadows, I pulled one last week and had around 3000 pictures of the sky after a critter moved it. hate it when that happens.

The leg heights seem high for a bobcat... Bobcat.  :IBCOOL:  It seems like it's taller than the typical bobcat but hard to tell for sure.
