Garage Chest Freezer
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:34:03 PM »
I am looking to buy a nice chest freezer to put in my garage.  I have a good space for it that would accomidate something between 5-6 ft wide and 3 feet or so deep.  Anyone have recommendations on what would be best?  I would like to get the largest internal storage space while staying as energy efficient as possible.  Anything else I should be thinking about?  I have never had one before.

Thanks,

Curt

I've had both chest freezers and stand up freezers,  I got to tell you those stand up freezers are sure nice for things like pizza's, packages of fish and convenience type items.

Chest freezers is where I put the side of beef.  Big tubs full of burger, another tub of steaks or roasts etc.  Doesn't get opened as much.  I hate mixing convenience frozen foods with bulk meats.  Everything ends up jumbled up in a big mess and you can't find what you need hidden at the bottom of the chest freezer. Kids are terrible at jumbling through and knocking holes in bags for freezer burn to set in.

:yeah:  Ikeep all the bulk meat in my chest. Once ive processed and packaged the meat it goes in with writing on it such as type, of meat, cut and date and the kids are stricken from digging, sitting, playing on or near it so they don't mess up the packages or defrost the wrong package.  That and no issues with the door not closing/securing.
