A customer called me the other day and said that she got my name from a friend of hers. She said that her friend used me a few years back when I was in business to trap some muskrats for her.
So I go over to this customers house to find out that she had a NWCO Compay there and they couldn't catch the muskrat in her pond. They were there for (ready for this?) Three weeks.
ya three weeks. She said that they put cage traps on the ground not in the water and told her that they will come out of the water, up onto the land, into the cage trap and get caught.........
She told them to put in for the lethal control permit and they never did. Why? Maybe because they didn't know how to or have any other traps besides cage traps fit for a raccoon! They never caught one muskrat ..........ummmmm

I go back to my truck, put on my hip waders grab some colony traps and jump in the pond. I walk the edge of the pond, find a couple of tunnels and runs and set my traps. I came back the first trip and had one rat. While I'm there it looks like maybe I could set another one or two traps so I did. I come back today and pick up another rat. She is with me and she is real happy to say the least.
Here is the problem with you folks that want to go out and get a trappers and nwco license. You want to go into business right away. You want to go out and you think you know how to or think you know how to catch something and you will make the "big dollars" with no experience. You don't know how to answer the customers questions when they ask why your not solving their problem.
All I can say to you folks is before you even think about starting a NWCO business, I sujest you sit back and learn all you can before you jump into this line of work. I been trapping for 40 years and had a NWCO Business for 28 of those years. I caught my share of critters and I have dealt with a lot of customers. If you can't catch a muskrat with no experience than how are you going to solve someone's problem with beaver and even better yet "coyotes?"
