recomend a backpacking trip for first timers?
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:24:44 PM »
So I have decided I want to go on a backpacking/fishing trip this summer, with the better half and kid, none of us are in to backpacking as of now. I would like to find a trail that will end up at a lake to do a little fishing, don't want to go to far, thinking maybe 3 miles, and would prefer it to be easy terrain to keep it enjoyable as possible for the wife and kid. I know with those parameters I probably wont find a hidden gem that isn't getting a lot of pressure through the seasons, but im ok with that. probably going to go in late july/early august.

anybody have a go to spot that may fit?

Are you wanting to travel or stay close to home? I know of a few lakes up around Winthrop that would be good starters.

Mirror lake on the I-90 corridor. About 3 miles in with a couple different smaller lakes heading in. Good spot for kids and first timers. Did a few kids backpacking trips. Fun times trees and water with good scenery.
fear no fish!!

How far are you interested in traveling? Are you in tri-cities?

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

It's a fun trip with the kiddos. Keeps their interest level high when they have fun! Plenty of room in the pack for s'mores and a couple cold beverages around the fire.
