Stump Shooting

Hi fellas, I'm a traditional bow shooter. I love archery and a great past time of many trad archers is 'roving' or stump shooting with judo/blunt/small game heads. Its super fun and great practice for hunting.

A while ago I got to thinking about going. Just because I missed the woods. But then I realized that small game season was closed. Now I wasn't looking to small game hunt understand, but I would be carrying gear that looks like I would be.

So if I didn't have a license to hunt some small game (something appropriate for the points on my arrows) and took my daughter out for a day of stump shooting, would I be risking a poaching ticket?

I shoot stumps all the time, they are ALWAYS in season !!

So...if I took my recurve with a quiver full of arrows with field points to my favorite late archery deer spot before the season started to practice all the shots I missed in the past would I be cool? Or would I get accused of hunting deer with field points out of season?

Innocent until proven guilty right? Could they prove you were gonna shoot deer out of season with field points?

Thanks guys, I understand it's innocent until proven guilty but I want to be wise and not have to pay for a lawyer to prove the point that's all.

I was coyote hunting with my recurve, broadheads and all. Found 2 poached bucks, called the GW(this was after winter season) and he asked "so did ya get em with that?" Pointing to my bow and we laughed and I said no and off he went investigating the scene. Stump shooting is pretty common and I've found most public lands in Texas have laws against stump shooting which sucks but whatever.

Oh and call in any poaching no matter how suspicious you look. That investigation led to 2 chest freezers full of wild game meat(not just deer) and 3 trophy racks being recovered. Last I heard the guy that was guilty was working a deal of providing names of 4 other trophy poachers. Hunting for food is one thing, for fun is another.
