Game Warden nailed guys for $6500 Redondo
« on: July 11, 2017, 12:56:57 PM »
Went down to the Redondo beach pier for some crabbing yesterday. Gamie was just wrapping up a stop there. Apparently a couple guys from south of the Rio Grande had caught 65 "black trout" which were actually baby salmon. After the game warden confiscated the fish they continued to fish off the pier until he returned with the $6500. He should have confiscated all their gear and vehicle. The state will probably never see a dime of that $6500. >:(

Throw them in the can until somebody comes up with the money.

For that size infraction, I'm really surprised he didn't get their gear.  I'm not sure if they can take the truck if it wasn't directly involved.  I have seen a guy need to buy his boat and truck back at auction for something in that price range.

This type of fine can only be handed down by a judge and not on a simple ticket. So there's something not lining up here....

Naw, they let you know the fine, which in this case is most likely per fish, just in case you don't contest the ticket and send them the $$. Which probably does not happen often for larger penalties.

I always heard that they don't take your truck or boat if you still owe on them.   :dunno:
If you "own" them out right, they will take them.  :dunno:

Not true. Guy in Oregon (If I remember) got popped for poaching a few years ago. They took his truck which he still owed over $40,000 on. He still had to pay it off. Great article in the paper on it. That loss was much greater than the fines.
