25-06 loads
« on: January 06, 2009, 07:32:22 AM »
Does anyone have a preferred powder?  I'm thinking of picking up a # of Imr4350 and a pound of rl-19, of course it looks like
I'm going to be stuck with rem. brass.  I want to try some 85 and 100gr ball. tips for yotes, and maybe find a big game load
using 115gr bullets.  I'm hoping to have my new t/c prohunter today so any help would be appreciated. ;)

Yeah I don't care too much about the hides, we're not getting much for them anyway, I just wanted a caliber that will stretch my effective range a bit ;)

I load up a 115g Nosler BT with that 4350.  I don't remember the charge exactly so I won't attemp to quote it.  I remember it was kinda middle of the road and I went with it for accuracy.   Consult your reloading books.

I'd look really hard at working up something with a 100g Barnes solid.  That would be perfect for small animals.

Have fun!

I use a top end load of the RL-19 and a 115gr Combined Technologies Ballistic Silvertip and it has been deadly on deer with very good accuracy from the bench as well.  I believe the load was 0.5gr below max in the Nosler reloading book out my Ruger.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Retumbo is a great powder for 110-115 grain bullets.  I shoot 57gr of Retumbo and a 110gr Accubond.  It gives me .67" groups with my Stevens 200 in .25-06 at 100 yards

I'm thinking I'll be better off with the slowest burning powders because I ordered the 28" barrel 8)
Any proven velocity figures?

I have a 2 bit as well as my cousin that love imr 4831. his is faster then mine by a bit, but both push 100gr pills over 3600.

I was hoping for around 3550fps with that 28"tube, what barrel lengths do the rifles you're talking about have?
