All we are missing are the 59.00 AMD 65 kits that Tapco was selling years ago, and those had barrels.

Here is an easier way to build your own AK47. EVERYTHING you need is right here on this web site.

http://ak-builder.com/
Cool link!

Have you ever heard of an AK receiver that is welded and not formed?  IE it is 4 precut sides that you weld together?  A guy at work mentioned having seen that before...

You will never see those prices ever again. The very first kit I bought was a Romanian "G" series kit for $130.00. Because of the demand, the kits hover around the $400.00-$450.00 range. And that is the easiest way to build if it has the factory barrel. Several years ago, the ATF made a rule that all the remaining kits that came into the country had to have the barrels cut so you were forced to buy an American made barrel. Your going to pay a little more if you find a kit with a factory barrel.

Yes I have seen those receivers. I would stay away from them. The sheet metal is pretty thin and you can burn holes in it trying to weld. Plus you have to weld them perfectly square and they end result is they are not as strong. IMO, it is easier to bend one than it is to try and weld one. The very first AK's were made from a single piece of block metal and were machined to spec. Then like every country to save money they started to make receivers out of sheet metal and hydraulicly stamp it into form to make the receiver. So you either have a machined or stamped receivers. The first AK was made in 1947, hence AK-47. The newer smaller bullet of 5.45x39 was made in 1974. Hence AK-74. The Russians  developed this caliber to match our .223 caliber. The newer caliber is a lot lighter to carry a couple of hundred rounds than the older 7.62x39.

Isn't this like what our founding fathers did, when the British took away guns and metal to make guns?

History never changes.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

Not quite, I believe they rounded up the militia and shot them up a fair amount on their way to and back from confiscating the powder.

Did you actually machine the parts like this guy with the shovel? If so, those are really impressive.

You can buy kits that start with a flat piece of sheet metal that you have to bend and heat treat.

But that piece of sheet metal, already has all of the hole and cut outs done for you. Then you bend it. You only have to heat treat 4 holes. The hammer pin holes and the trigger pin holes. That is what is called a flat.

I made the receivers. All the other parts were in the military surplus parts kit. I do not have a machine to make barrels, bolts, triggers, etc. A complete kits comes with all those pieces. Then you assemble them on the receiver you just made. I have dreams about owning a CNC machine. Then I could make all the other parts except the barrel. I would need a specific machine for the rifling to do that.

I would be doing a little research before offering to help anyone build a gun, especially after I594.  It's perfectly acceptable to build your own... key words being "build your own".  There have been cases where people were having others finish the 80% lowers for them, and it didn't work out so well for either party.
