Looking for a mentor
« on: June 05, 2015, 08:39:46 PM »
So I'm moving to Tacoma in two weeks from Louisiana.
I grew up in the country out here so I have a love for the outdoors,
But lacking any kind of male role model as a child I don't have the skills needed to live off the land as my heart so desires.
I could read a book and learn from my mistakes, but I have a sincere desire to make friends who could show me first hand about the land there.

Anyone out there willing to help a motivated guy learn some basic woodsmanship?

You found a good place. Depending on the areas, weapon choice, animal choice you want to hunt I'm positive somebody will be more tthan happy to assist.

Welcome, and good first post!

I would suggest searching through the older posts. You can learn a lot from what has been posted in the past. Getting out in the woods is the obvious goal you are shooting for.

There are many places within an hour or two of Tacoma to get out and hike/learn "good" wood skills, and just get use to being in the woods.

Soon, you will be thinking, "this is what I was meant to do".

I'm 25,
Hanny with a bow,
Absolute *censored*e at hitting anything that flies.

I'm taking a leap of faith moving out there,
But I'm optimistic and outgoing so I'm really just looking for friends.

Well,
I met this group of friends taking a road trip from up there and we really hit it off,
They offered me a couch if I ever went up there and I'm cashing that check lol.
My ultimate goal is to homestead up in the mountains by the time I'm in my thirties.

Im just at a point in my life where I'm tired of drifting aimlessly.
I know what I want so I'm going for it and I'm not letting anything stop me.
Society is making me Ill and for a long time I thought I didn't have any options,
But it was my fear of moving forward alone that has held me back.
