scope help
« on: June 06, 2015, 08:35:49 PM »
I got a leupold 6-18x40 with the turrets yesterday and put it on my weatherby today and went out to sight it in....i bore sighted it fine then moved out to 100 yds and could not get it to group at all...i think 5" was the best group  i could get and still had a few strays even with that group. before i sent the scope to leupold to get checked out i figured i would ask you guys for your opinion...i added a picture and theres 6 shots and you can see they were jumping around all over..ive had this only happen once to me and the crosshairs were loose and leupold had to fix them.

Loose bases ?    If you have weaver bases chuck them and go to leupold bases or better. I have had a vx2 on my 30/378 for years and it's never lost its zero.

Is that a new or used/second hand scope?

Probably worth it then to swap back to the scope you know was working and send a few down range to see if it is back on track.

That should be the fastest way to eliminate any mounting issues, if everything is tight and straight and it shoots true, you know the "new" scope is the problem, then you can box it up and send it in, and put this problem to bed.

Like coaches idea, put a different scope on that gun to check or put that scope on a different gun for testing.  But probably loose tube---maybe stripped a little if someone tried to adjust too far?

Your pic shows your rings against the bell! Move it forward and torque it at 20 inch. And try again.

Hey for what it's worth, you have almost zero clearance between your bell and barrel.
I see ring marks an inch back?

Sounds like a problem with the scope to me. Like said check all hardware and retry or try the other scope.  But being this is a rifle you know will shoot I'd just send in the scope. Jmo
