A lot of folks apparently didn't grow up in a hunting family or were to slow to understand that guns kill. Why else would anyone take a course that wasn't required? Born before 1 January 1972 you don't need to take the course. So all you folks that took the course in the early to mid 70's at the ages of 8 to 13 and those that took it before that even DUH figured things out yet?Being born in the 40's maybe we didn't need a government class to tell us which end of a gun the bullet comes out of and how to handle firearms safely.Killed first deer in 1962 fork horn in MI first Time hunting 1956 Pheasant 410/22 over under that I still haveSome states you need it no matter when you were born.Others like Col. 1949.So if you want to hunt such states you need it.Mine was MI.

Not everyone of the forum was fortunate enough to be born in this state.

And yes, there were far more hunting related shooting incidents in the 50s and 60's before hunter education became mandatory.
