1995 age 12
Twin City shotgun club
PSE hand-me-down must of weighed 12 lbs with a 40% letoff
Blacktail doe 15 yds age 12
Went to hunting camp in Champion (Kapowsin) after school that first Friday of the season (season already started during the week) and had a deer in the back of the truck by dusk. Shot the first legal thing I saw  :chuckle: Best eating deer I've ever harvested to this day. 'Ol Hanz and Vita were smiling almost as big as I was when I checked that deer through the gate.

Moved to WA from AZ in 1969, 16 years old.  Mule deer yearling after dad killed the doe.  Winchester 32 special.  Dad wasn't able to hunt much after that year.  Miss him.  Amazing the places we went with a 2 wheel drive pickup.

Going way back into the archives here, 1972. In Oregon at that time you had to be twelve to hunt, so I took hunters ed in the spring and hunted that fall. Didn't get my first buck until 1976 though.

Took the class in 1986 when I was 18 (grew up in an anti-hunting family, asked for a .22 every year from 12 on, bought my own guns and took hunter safety when I turned 18).
First kills were small game and game birds, first deer was a whitetail doe in 1987, with my grandfather's Model 94 .30/30.
Took the class again in 1996 with my bride.
Sat through the class again in 2008 with my son.

My mom still says her biggest disappointment in me is when I bought a gun and killed an animal.  I tell her she's lucky that's the biggest disappointment I've caused her :)
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Kind of an old thread but here goes:

Took the class in 1968(?) and tagged my first deer in 1969 bowhunting in the old Nason creek bowhunting only unit.  Things were much different back then.

Hunter safety in winter of 1990 at 11 years old.  First hunt was in the Colockum.  Haven't been back there since 1995.

I think it was 1957 or '58 but could have been '56.  In my faulty memory it was the first year they required hunter safety for a youngster to buy a license.

Fork horn in Blue Mountains, range of 15 feet.

Savage model 340 bolt action carbine in .30-30, open sights.

Sad story,
   - Dad's rifle education - age 8.  No hunter ed.  (plenty of weapons training - USN /FMF 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions)
   - First rifle - 1973ish (age 14) Remington .30-06 (traded away in a car deal in '88)
   - First hunt - 2011
