Goose Prairie bull permit
« on: June 12, 2015, 11:11:54 AM »
Well, my son got drawn for the any bull Goose Prairie modern firearm permit.  Goose Prairie is the Nile and Bumping units.

We have never hunted that area and I'm looking for advice, tips, etc. on those two units.

I'm not asking for specifics on your favorite honey holes, just some help on where to start our scouting before the season starts (Oct 26 - Nov 8).

You can PM me if you like.

Thanks in advance.

Great tag to have, but a big area to learn if you have never spent time in the units. I would suggest taking multiple three day weekends and really pounding the dirt hard.

And I always wonder (it's "wonder" by the way) why some people have to stick their noses in other people's business, when they have nothing constructive to contribute.

Great advice given, big area, very good elk country, go spend a weekend driving, glassing, finding a couple areas you like and then come back multiple times and learn them so when the season hits you will be ready to go.  No magic or secret spot in those units, just lots of elk and elk country.

Can't think of a better summer getaway than hitting the hills and seeing new country.

Thanks to all of those who have taken the time to PM me with some scouting ideas.

We are planning a number of trips between now and elk season to familiarize ourselves with the
area and do some serious scouting.

We are looking forward to many hours of exploring new hunting grounds !!

One more hearty "Thank you" to the people who have responded with some advice to get us on our way,
as well as to those who are just giving us encouragement and wishing us well.

I'm looking at the William O. Douglas Wilderness Area on some topo maps right now.  I assume that
Rattlesnake Creek is aptly named............................
