OTC tags Idaho, Montana, Colorado and Wyoming
« on: June 12, 2015, 11:26:50 AM »
Is it worth doing or is 'draw' the only way to go?

I have never hunted out of State but would like to soon. Are there decent otc options available for these States or does a guy really need to put it for the draws? I've been researching but only seem to find draw conversations... I am just looking better/more opportunities. I'm curious about public land availability and just basic info. I only know one guy that hunts out of State and they hit the same pivate land every year. I would also be interested in picking the brain of someone that does hunt out of State from a 'paperwork' standpoint and could possibly advise pertaining to potential questions regarding the regs etc...

Thanks in advance for any info or guidance, pm's are always accepted. It is literally either this or watch the classifieds for my gear...I've had it with WA.

I have done Idaho deer and elk both Otc and draw for a few years. There is tons of land and good opportunity. Feel free to shoot me a pm and we can talk. I will share general info.

Depending on what weapon, animals and expectations, there are tons of out of state OTC tags that are good. The limiting factor generally is budget as license and tags are $$$ but worth it in my opinion.

Thanks guys. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem doing research and learning the process. I'm not looking to be spoon fed, more just looking for getting started material.

Much appreciated! BULLBLASTER; thank you very much, I'll pm you when I get away from work and can actually think...

No elk or deer in Idaho no matter what anyone tells you..  I do wish I would of started hunting idaho many years ago instead of just 4.   :chuckle:

I grew up in Northeast Oregon, moved to southeast Washington, and now I only hunt in south central Idaho. I have to see if I draw my rifle tag and if I don't then I can plan a trip when ever I want in September with my bow. Oh yeah, it's a three week rifle tag if/when I draw it and it's any bull, the bow tag I get is any elk. It makes it hard for me to get excited about hunting Washington when I have all that going for me in Idaho.

I've done lots of OTC deer in Wyoming since the early 90's (not technically OTC, but many areas are undersubscribed).
Lots of land and opportunity, but it's gotten more spendy.

I hunt Idaho whitetails every year OTC.  Definitely worth it to me. Plenty of public land.
