She drew the disabled cow tag. Will be a hard hunt for us because she uses a wheelchair, but she is a real trooper. She's tagged 2 deer in the last 3 years. With only 4 tags, I'm hoping the elk won't all be up on the slopes.

Oct. 18-24. I've hiked several times there with kids when they were little and pulled Scotchbroom there on an RMEF project. I'll hike down in there to check it out again, since its been several years since I hiked there. A buddy has a DFW job in there spraying Scotchbroom now, so I'll get some feedback from him as well. Any advice is welcome. My plan is to pitch a wall tent near the road on the bottom. I'm familiar with the bottom, but don't know the exact boundaries so will be looking for other spots for her to hunt as well.  And find a better electric scooter for Charlene.

with the disability they give you a key and you can drive your truck right in that's what we did when my friend had his mud flow tag.

kentrek, thanks for the offer. Its been awhile since I read all the rules, but they limit the number of people who can assist. Having said that, I'd take any advice about that hunt.

Buckhorn2, how was the hunt for your friend? I know we get a key and I've read before when we get the key. I recall it was just prior to the hunt. So I'll do all the scouting without her.

I've accessed the southern side of the valley from the Weyco land previously and will look at that as well.

I'm really excited for her.  I have a bunch of work to finish today and am having a hard time focusing on the work. Anxious to read all the rules and to get boots on the ground. Graduation parties aren't going to let me get up there this weekend.

You are allowed up to three people per hunter I believe...may be different for disabled  :dunno:

But ya il point ya dowm some roads on the hill side that tend to produce if they are all chased out of the flats...but her scooter would need to be more off road type

Can she take a quad ??

Il pm you as season gets closer

Thanks. Road access is a must for her. So any direction on that is helpful. I have an old quad she could use, but that will be difficult for her. I can walk beside her and help operate it or, perhaps, ride behind her to assist. She can't hold her body up very well. She is very much a disabled hunter.

My dad has one of these things. Might be the way to go if you can use a quad and drive her around.

Google "Quadboss 15-6609"

Thanks. I've looked at those before, and think its a real possibility.  Main issues are getting her up in it and the lateral support, but I'll probably do it unless I find a different solution. Been thinking about finding a side-by-side to borrow or rent as well.

She has put in for that tag for several years and I've pondered how I'd make it all work for many hours in previous years.  Making it happen for her will be a large part of the adventure for us.  She has seen plenty of pictures of the kids in there messing around. Be good for her to actually get there.  Pictures are from a spring day several years ago with the kids messing around with winter-kill remains.

That pelvice pic is Predator all the way.

Hopefully they let you drive the road down onto the flat. If that's the case, then you should be good to go in your truck.

Predator for sure.  From reading the rules, we will get a key and be able to drive on the road.  That should get her on the valley floor and make getting camp in easy.  I don't like to hunt from the truck with her, though. We usually hunt from her electric scooter in wheat and pea fields.  We'll do some sitting and waiting, which is easy for her but hard for me.

After five days of sticking it out, we connected on an elk to fill Charlene's tag.  Great camaraderie with the other hunters on the Mudflow.  Charlene will be smiling about Flo for years.  (We name our kills.)
