so now that the draws are out - We got drawn for our second choice (observatory) on Quality Elk Bowhunt. Anyone have any insight about the area and/or helpful hints.

Can't say I blame him for wanting some help.

People put in for many units and
often simply don't have the time to
scout them all. If it was me i would
take some time and do some pre scouting.

If you have some help for the guy, help. If you don't and just want to make wise cracks....move on.
Some of you guys should look at your 1st few posts before slinging mud.

Yeah H2O BE nice!  I'd look into 342 I don't believe there is a open general season at that time in that unit so you can avoid some crowds maybe.  The 340 side will get hunted pretty hard by over the counter guys but will still have plenty of elk around but the seem to move year to year on my experiences up there.

I would say to the OP that you should do a lot of searches on this website and send some PMs after taking a trip over and familiarizing yourself with road systems and GMU boundaries etc.

It will make you seem much more invested in the tag you've drawn :twocents:

A buddy of mine had this tag last year, he passed on a few little bulls and one 280-300" 6 point that he should have shot. I would plan to be a long ways from any road this year, 340 cow and twice as many spike hunters start the same morning. My buddy had a 3 day head start last year. He had a great hunt but ate his tag. Good luck

I had the tag two years ago. Didn't fill it but I was on Bulls. We hunt it every year for general season in 342. Only bull hunters in there
During archery season.

Start scouting to unit, don't forget your discover pass and green dot map. Lots of nice canyons and open spots to glass this summer. I draw the rifle bull permit last year in the same unit. Only thing is I hunt the unit ever year. Well good luck this up coming season. PM me and I might point up down some roads, but your going to have to do the rest.

Thank You guys for all of your help so far and not slamming me that bad!!! I started to get the armor on as I was expecting to get an ear full. We had the Cowiche for our first choice as we know more about that area than Observatory, but really wanted to get a hunt in after 7 years. Sounds like the elk are going to get pushed around a bit in there. We plan on making a trip or two before the season starts and scouting 2 days prior to opening.

I am hoping the elk are more vocal this year too with a bit later season. Only started hearing them last year on the last weekend.

Depends drastically where you are hunting in the unit. I began hearing bugles on day 3 last year.
