2015 Selkirk any moose tag
« on: June 13, 2015, 07:16:19 AM »
Well after the shock and excitement has come back into the non-medical emergency levels, I got up this morning and thought I might as well put my plea for information out there. I would sooo much appreciate any info on going about taking a decent bull to hang my one and only moose tag on. I have hunted whitetails in the unit years back but its been awhile so im hoping to sneak up there later this summer for a quick look around to get familiar.

Any info from best time to go and what I should expect to see for bulls would help and any personal knowledge you guys could provide would be appreciated beyond belief. Thanks in advance and looking forward to talking moose the next few months.

Drew that tag 7 years ago.  FUN tag.   Call them in and blow him up.

Here is a warning.  They are tough animals.  I shot the bottom 1/3 of the heart and it went down than got up and took 3 or 4 steps.

The meat is top shelf.  Do not waste it.

My dad's best friend/ second father drew this tag too. He's 74 so I'm really happy that he ended up drawing his moose tag in his lifetime. Good luck to you. Maybe we'll see you out there.

Thanks for the reply. Did u hunt the start of the season then with calling and the rut? How far into Oct does the rut go? What kind of bull did you end up with? I will be shooting a 300 winmag and the meat is the part I'm most excited about.

Thanks NWBREW, and good luck to you as well.

Ya thanks grundy. I almost feel bad that I drew and my almost 70 yr old father-in-law is still waiting. He will be going along so I guess that makes it a little better. Should be a blast trying to become moose hunters on the fly?

Had the tag in 03. I will dig through my maps and get you some locations to begin your search. I found mine by doing a little cow call in a known location and he couldn't wait to get to where I was. Awesome hunt in some awesome country. Be sure to have a bear tag too.
