He said he'd be in the bush until the 15th with little to no service.

It's the 20th. This is uncalled for.

The moose hunt is finished.  I've had some things come up and a few reminders that tomorrow is never promised..  I'll gather some pictures and post a story over the next couple days.

Ok, time to try and get some of this up.  I ended up getting some bad news after being picked up at the airport for this years moose hunt. It's been bothering me since and I haven't had my mind on posting up pics or a story...

Anyway, I'll start with some scenery pics and do it a little like I did last year.

My Dad and a good friend had been scouting quite a bit and located a few bulls.  During the few days I had to scout we primarily focused on an area that had some good bulls and was easy to scout without disturbing the moose.  We glassed this cut prior to the season and spotted several bulls and cows every morning and evening.

There were a few bulls hanging in the clearing pictured above and one wide one that was worth going after.  Saw and passed on a couple smaller bulls, then got messed up by some other hunters one day...

Watched my bull come out of the tree line and knew it was one of the good ones, and it was about 400 yards out.  Then a little confusion... This isn't the bull we had watched... He turns.... Yes he is... Wait what happened.... Where is the bull?.... Oh there he is.... What's going on with his left side?...

Long story short our 60" bull is out in front of us missing his left paddle... Which he was sporting two days earlier.   We watched him and another bull in the cut for about 30 minutes messing with a cow and calf.  He got to 200 yards and I decided he was too good of a mature bull to let go.  Got a good rest and put one behind the shoulder.  He took about three steps and piled up.

The bull weighed 820 dressed hanging weight and had a 42" spread to the broken side.  Good side to center of skull was a touch over 29"... So he was at or very close to our estimated 60" spread.  We saw him sparring with another bull at the top of the clearing a couple days before, but didn't witness the fight that broke his paddle.

I did search for the broken side, but couldn't find it.  I picked up two sheds while looking though which was a bonus.  They were several years old and from different moose.
