2015 Swakane sheep tag
« on: June 14, 2015, 07:44:53 AM »
I drew the Swakane sheep tag with 11 points!  I've got a lot to learn about sheep hunting in the next few months.  Any pointers, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Since I am new to this forum here is a little background on me:  I am a 40 year old electrician, married with 10 & 12 year old boys.  Both kids have passed hunters safety and my 12 year old got his first elk last year!  I have archery hunted elk since 2004 and killed my best Roosevelt last year a nice 6 by 5.  I am in descent shape and I will be in better shape for the sheep hunt.  I haven't spent any time in the swakane unit but as soon as baseball season gets over I will be spending lots of time over there.

That's awsome!!!!   Give Dan a call at four point taxidermy in Wenatchee.  He's helped a lot of people out on that sheep hunt.  He loves sheep hunting!!!  And he's a dam good taxidermist!!   He's the local expert as far as I'm concerned!!!  Let me know what he tells ya!!!!

Congratulations on Your Tag!!!!!!!!!!!
The following is just my opinion.
The research You are starting is a big part of the OIL tag experience.  If You do not have a map it is the first thing You should do. Talk to the biologist over there and get a feel for the area before doing to much research. Take a drive and do some scouting. If You do not know the unit You going to have to put some work in. I would start now. OIL tags are a great reason to get in shape and spend time in the field. Sheep are my favorite animal. In my opinion they are the most majestic big game animal. You are going to have a great hunt if You put in time before season.
Being new here You should probably modify your first post and include a little introduction about who you are and maybe a little background about yourself.
Good luck and take care,
John

I heard about this from a mutual friend, congratulations! To anyone who's wondering he's a good guy who hunts hard and puts in the work. Nice draw!

THanks for all the replies so far.  I will be talking to Dan at four point taxidermy.  I can't wait to get over there, just need baseball to end so I have some time!
