« on: June 16, 2015, 10:25:58 AM »
I have a R700 inn 30-06 and I'm getting a leupold vx1 for fathers day just looking for recommendations on the mounts and rings that you use/ would use (it has a scope and mount on it now of unknown origin just figure best to upgrade all at same time)

you could use those rings.

If you mount any lower you may have to remove the rear site.
I like using a picatinny rail so i can move a scope from one gun to another without a bunch of hassle.

Any decent rings and bases will do. Go with weaver style bases and Leupold rings.

People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

I would get the Leupold standard 1 piece mount and matching Leupold rings. :twocents: X-force gives good advice but I rarely and basically never move my scopes to different rifles so for a normal/conventional hunting rifle i use Leupold scope/rings/base combo on most of my rifles

I don't like the standard Leupold mounts or any others that are the twist in style. Although I do have that type on my main hunting rifle, but only because it's been that way since I bought the rifle in 1997 and I'm not going to change something that's been working well for that many years. But on my more recent rifles I have used the Talley lightweights. If they weren't available I'd probably go with Burris Signature rings with Weaver style bases.

I do like these see through rings but am concerned with the height of them, will it cause me any problems sighting in the new scope?

The see through rings cause the scope to be too high, so that you will probably have to raise your cheek completely off the stock in order to see through the scope. That is not a good thing and makes it difficult to shoot accurately.

I use Talley LW lows or super lows depending on scope

If your concerned with being able to use your open sights still you could use a set of quick release rings. I have these leupold QRW's on my marlin 336ss https://www.baitnhook.net/Leupold-49856-QRW-1-Rings-Quick-Release-Weaver-Med-Matte_p_44662.html?gclid=CLuWg-GBlcYCFUprfgodT7YAIQ
