Youth tags. Swakane and Green River.
« on: June 16, 2015, 11:09:11 PM »
Hi all,
Bouncing off the walls already. Both Daughters drew youth tags this year. My 15 year old has a Swakane youth antlerless. Which was nice as we did not leave her points on the table. The 12 year old was drawn for the Green River youth. Beginners luck as she only had one point putting in 8)

If any one has any prior experiences they can share about these tags I would be all ears. I have a good idea where to start but could definitely learn from those that have hunted there.

Is the swakane rifle?  What time of the year?  Should be an easy hunt.  Shoot me a pm if you have specific questions.

Green river will be no scouting. They'll let you in the gate at headworks on opening day & you have to exit each day, no camping & you can only take 1 other person, unless that has changed. It used to be youth doe tag but looks like this is a buck tag, Nice! Ask the gate keepers or glass the clear cuts is all I got but should be able to tag. Good luck
I have Man Chit to do

My daughter shot her first and only buck with the youth tag in the green river water shed, great time. We only lasted till about a couple hours after first light, she shot a 110 to 115" 3 point. My dad had the disability doe tag the same year, he shot the doe that was with the buck! It was an epic moment in our lives.   A girl youth a year before us shot a 140" class buck in there, be patient and glass.  Her buck just stood there waiting for us to get the shooting sticks adjusted, it was the first buck we saw that morning. No regrets, have fun and after she shoots one, you can keep going in and she can hunt bear and cougar.  Good luck and keep us posted!  Some guards might give you an idea where to go but most don't say a whole lot.

Yes Swakane rifle Oct 17 to 27. Limited to the weekends but she can work hard (see photo). So no suggestion will be too rough. Thanks again for all the willingness to share.

If we get a little weather, Swakane will be good.  I would focus on the western end of the unit because the migration reaches there first; Oct. 17 - 26 does should start showing.  Mad River FS 5700, 5800 7520 Eagle Creek should be holding some deer by then.  Roads are good if there isn't snow.  Should be fun.
