Montana Unit 270

I'm not sure if these pics have been on here before, but this is what you are looking for if you get lucky enough to get drawn for 270 in MT. Don't know who the hunter is, just received the pics in an email.

Good timing. This same buck is also on the Boone and Crockett Trophy Watch page. They just posted an update to the photo. This is what they have:

UPDATE: Received word the buck scores 198 gross B&C and was taken by Matt Ekstrom in 2006 from Somewhere, MT. Buck is not listed in B&C records as officially scored and entered.

Man, that is one GREAT buck!

Way cool.  Have you hunted 270 before?  I know it's the holy grail to draw for MT.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I need to go photograph there.  I'll never draw it.

Yup, it's about a 1 in 58 draw in 2007.  I'll stick to Unit 7.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

1/58 AFTER it takes you 5 years to draw Montana deer in the first place.  Then how exactly do you have points for their special draw, if you can't even put in for them anyway.   :dunno:  (asa  non resident)

1/58 with no way to get prefrence points >:(

...makes the "anger sharks" swim in my head...

I DID read somewhere though that as 270 becomes more and more popular they will start managing other Mule Deer units the same way (at least that's the plan).  The management of 270 as a trophy unit is fairly new.  The way i understand it, 270 was Montana's test-effort to start making the state a top mulie destination again, like Idaho is doing with unit 45.  Trying to create something like the Arizona Strip.  Looks like it's working.  Hopefully they will get on the ball and start adding units soon...

Go figure!!! I have sent several emails to Washington F&W about this and suggested they try this in some of the Methow units. EVERY TIME I recieved a reply saying "it doesn't work" :bash:
They told me that if they did make it a 4 point restriction in some units then only mature bucks would be harvested and they dont want that. The point is there would be more mature bucks, as Montana and Idaho are finding out.

look what happened to the wenas. It was a trophy bench unit and then they opened it for general because they thought it was a migratory unit. Well the were wrong and there was a massacre. There was a dead buck hanging in every tree at cascade park and a lot of them were very nice bucks.
