spotting scope
« on: August 20, 2015, 03:14:59 PM »
Hey I'm looking into getting a spotting scope. I'm heading to Wyoming to do some antelope hunting and want a good quality scope that would get the job done.  What are you thoughts and recommendations on what i should get?  I like vortex a lot but not to picky and don't want to spend more than $800 or so.  Any thoughts or comments would help, thank you

If you like the Vortex and $800 is your limit, I would go with that. I have their binos, rifle scopes and rangefinder and have been very happy with everything.

If 800 is your budget is 800 call up elknut outdoors or pm him here for his prices on scopes. I have a 11-33 razor hd basically brand new I'd be willing to part with for 475 I believe elknut has those for around 600 if I recall. Great spotter real lightweight if you are packing it for your hunts.

I'm a big Vortex fan but I recently had the privilege of testing out an Opticron MM3 and I have to say it is really nice glass. might be worth looking at. I have the MM3 HD 50mm with HDF T 12-36x eyepiece.

I'd look at a 15-45x60 Vortex Viper

ok thanks for the help everybody.  I was thinking about vortex diamondback 20x60x80.  Any thoughts or comments on that one?

If you have a chance, head down to your local Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc...  Spend some time looking at and through both the Viper and the Diamondback.  I've found that the Viper performs better than the Diamondback, especially at higher magnification.  Both are still priced under your budget.  Contact Elknut when you're ready to buy....

Check the reviews on the kowa spotting scopes, if you get one, you will never look through another vortex

Speak for yourself.  We use a Vortex Razor 85 w/30 WA eyepiece right along side Kowas and others that are among the best out there for rockchuck shooting and.... well, you are entitled to your opinion.
