Wall Tent Recomendations

Hey guys..
Any great recommendations on a wall tent?

I have been looking at Montana Canvas and the Cabela's Alaknak tents. Looking for something that will hold up well against weather elements and keep dry. My budget is wide open. Typically I buy the best or somewhere close to it.

I wouldn't consider the Alaknak a wall tent, because it is so light weight and doesn't retain heat as well.  The good side is that is it considerably lighter in weight..  Wall tent will keep you warmer but is a lot more work to set up and take down.  I would go Montana or Davis wall tents if you might be hunting in cold weather or space doesn't matter when taking it up to camp.

My first recommendation would be a Davis Tent, IMO their the best wall tent for under $1400.  Lots of options that won't break the bank.

Second would be a Bravo tent, best wall tent made! but their not cheap and for a reason, but since your budget is wide open I would definitely consider Bravo Tents.

I have the alaknak and I like it a lot. It is very easy to put up and take down. It is pretty light in comparison to a wall tent. However, as mentioned above it doesn't hold heat as well. It gets plenty warm but when the stove burns out in the middle of the night it gets cold fast! An easy fix is putting a tarp over the tent. This helps retain the heat and keeps things a lot warmer. All this being said when I replace my tent I will likely get a Davis 16x20.

I love my Bravo.  Go bigger than what you think you need.  I wanted a 12x14 and went with a 15x15 and a 15x9 cookshack extension.  Super happy I did.  The only thing I would have done different is made the cook shack 15x10 so all of the pieces were the same length.  I would have made the sides 2" taller also so I could use the same 5' pieces there.  The other thing I would recommend is the high wind reinforcement at the tie loops, it is well worth it and you can really torque down the straps and get the tent good and tight.  I actually use motorcycle ratchet straps to tie mine down.

Check out cowboy canvas by Dave Ellis. I been looking at wall tents to and someone here shared a link. Seems pretty top notch to me.

You may want to check out www.walltentshop.com.  their wilderness tents aren't bad at all.  We have used a 14 x 16 for quite a few years with zero problems.

Bravo. Choose their best canvas.  Incredibly waterproof.  No grommets. D rings sewed into nylon webbing. Custom make whatever you want. May be more expensive than any other, but for a good reason.

Very happy with mine. Shopped a lot of tents before I chose. Bravo is a sponsor here, if I'm not mistaken.

  Made in Camas, WA.  Might be cheaper to pick it up than have it shipped.

I personally wouldnt deal with canvas and go with the relite made wall tent..resisit mildew and mold and is 40% lighter than canvas

I run a 15' x 24' Bravo for all of our main hunts with a 12' x 15' tent for shorter trips or to add as a cook shack for larger groups.  I also have a 4' x 4' outhouse. We have used our tents in some pretty nasty wind and snow and never had any issues. I went with the high wind package and a snow slide. Two years ago we got a 9' porch which is a great place to store gear, extra fire wood etc out of the elements. We love our tents and have had zero issues in the 10 yrs we have run them.

Yes the porch is 15' wide and extends out 9' so it can be used on either tent. We could actually put the all 3 together if we wanted too and open the doors in the middle of the two tents. I have not set it up that way yet. The last few years it has only been 2 or 3 of us so I have only taken the 15' x 24' with the porch, it's very comfortable.
