Quick run to the emergency vet!...

We were having a bbq with a couple friends tonight and the dogs were chasing each other around the yard. When they came upstairs gauge was acting funny. I noticed a wound on his shoulder. Turns out to be a 2+ inch laceration into his shoulder muscles. I am pretty sure he crashed into the metal fire pit. Looks like I'll be making a wood cover for it next week. Gauge is in getting stitches now. And I think my wallet will need some stitches before the end too.

Thanks Wallace. I m just glad that shorthairs don't know how to feel pain. It was stressful enough getting him loaded up and the other dog kenneled when he was excited for a car ride. It could have been much worse if he was crying and acting crazy because he was hurt. I'm sure he will pull through. Just another scar to add. This is his 3rd surgery.     million dollar dog.

We made it home around 1130 last night and gauge seems to be doing alright.
He was pretty out of it after the anesthesia for the stitches. I count 13 stitches.
Thanks for the recommendation on the staple gun. But I'm not sure I would be great at that. We don't hunt birds much anymore and if we do it's usually fairly close to town and not real far from the truck.

I feel your pain Chris.  I had to take a trip to the vet in Sandpoint on Friday.  Luckily we got there 7 minutes before they closed so we didn't get the after hours charge.  But Trigger cut his back leg pretty good and had to get 6 staples.  Crazy shorthairs! Luckily he just tore his skin and didn't cut any of the muscle so no stiches required, and more importantly, no anesthesia. I'm sure we got off way easier than you did.  Dang dogs can be expensive.

Oh man.  Crazy shorthairs! I wish the regular get would have been open. But at 830 pm on Sunday not too lucky. This was trip #3 for gauge to the emergency vet. Part of me wonders if they could have done without the anesthesia. But oh well. They got us pretty good. Hope trigger heals up well! Once we get the dogs all healed up we will have to get together for a bbq!

you ain't kidding they are a weapon of destruction! We need to repaint the inside of the house and they knock over anything that's not nailed down!  Glad to see your buddy is doing fine.

If Gauge wouldn't have cut muscle too, I bet they could have just done staples without the anesthesia.  The vet said Trigger took the staples like a champ.  I swear shorthairs don't feel pain... especially in their legs.  This is the 3rd serious cut he's had on his legs and every time I think I notice it before he does.  Tansy had to spend several days at the emergency clinic last year... I could have bought a custom rifle and topped it with a nice scope for what that set us back.

Gauge definitely knew he was hurt. But just slowly walked up to us and limped a little bit. Once I noticed and decided we were headed to the vet I said lets go for a car ride and he perked right up and ran and jumped in the car like normal. Acted normal at the vet even.  Wanted to say hi and play with everyone.  I don't think these dogs have pain receptors.
