I'm building up a lightweight ar15 in 6.8 SPC II.  I'm planning to hunt mule deer and black bear with it.  I'm soliciting suggestions for an optic.

I want to keep the weight below 10 ounces, and decent clarity for low-light visibility, and I don't want to spend more than $600

Currently I'm considering the scopes below, but I'm also interested in other suggestions.  If you have any experience with the Leupold Fixed Power scopes I'm interested in any feedback.

1. Leupold FXII 4x33
2. Leupold FXII 6x36
3. VX•HOG 1-4x20mm

Leupold makes a compact 3-9x33 that weighs about 10 ouncee. I've had a couple and have been pleased with them.

Hey Bob - I saw those online but based on reviews everywhere it seemed like they were only being used for rimfire rifles.  Is that not the case?  What calibers have you used this scope on?

Thanks!

Burris makes a 3-9X that weighs in a 13 oz.   It's their timberline model.  I know it is heavier than what you were looking for, but I have had great luck with it on my 7mm-08.

I have used them on 25-06, 270 WSM, 30-06, and 300 WSM rifles. I currently have one on my 300 WSM Brownsing X-Bolt. It is my go-to gun. It's been to Africa twice and killed many animals in many places. Never a hickup.

Is a couple of ounces really critical for you?  If not, at the $600 point it would open up a bunch more options.

I just put a Vortex Crossfire 2 1-4x24 on my .300 blackout. Good glass, not an ultralight, but it's not a tank.

1. Leupold FXII 4x33
2. Leupold FXII 6x36
3. VX•HOG 1-4x20mm

Dont forget the Leupold Mark AR series as well. IIRC the 1.5-4x is about 8.5 ounces, and the 3-9x is about 12.5 oz. Eye relief is very generous and the glass is clear. You can get them with or without mil reticles and illumination.
