Just wanted to jump in here and bring something about firearm transfers now in WA state.  I am a licensed FFL near Shelton, and bring in a number of firearms each year.  The ATF and then the State called and told me that I have to charge a "User's Fee" equal to the State Tax in my area.  We then render that fee to the State on a quarterly report.  It was a surprise to me but that is a current requirement, sorry to say.

I was at Puget Sound Gun & Lock Shop on Grove Street Marysville and they had a form saying that the "Use Tax"is exemt on person to person transfers. I did a transfer there and they didn't charge the tax. They were passing that form out at the last WAC Gun Show.

When out target shooting outside of Darrington I use to carry my stainless 357 GP100 9six inch).
But after hearing a few encounters a couple of guys have had up there I bought a Glock 20 - 10mm with the fifteen round magazines.
I'd be interested in hearing what happened. I've heard rumors of dirtbags showing up where people are shooting, but not from anyone who actually experienced it. It's why I always keep a designated gun loaded and holstered when out shooting.

Fish Vacuum

I,ve been really busy and haven't had time to respond to this.

I met three people who has had problems while out in the woods, Two had problems on the Mt. Loop Road judst out of Darrington on the way to GraniteFalls. The other one was out in the woods by Lyman east of Sedro-Wooly.

The first case happened just out of Darrington, The guy I talked to was out hikeing on old over grown logging road off of a up-kept logging road. He came to a sharp turn in the old over grown logging road and come upon a tent set up which he didn't think much of it until two guy's had shotguns pointed at him asking him what the *** he was doing there. He thought they were going to kill him on the spot. Needless to say he carries a gun with him EveryDay/AllDay and is way more alert of his surroundings. These guys were cooking meth out there.

The second incedent happened up in the woods over by Lymen, a friend ofmine went to go target shooting and by te time he got to the gravel pit there were already people there so he went to a short log road that goes back into the woods about a mile or so and it comes to a staging area. There was about two inches of fresh snow on at that time and there were no tracks going into this place so he figured he had thearea to himself.
At the staging area there was a POS car with a broken out window there covered with snow. A guy cam out of the woodsand was at the drives side door window with a shotgun pointed at him, By the time he figured out what was happening the shotgun was pointed at him. He had his revolver setting on the passenger side seat loaded, but it done him no good setting there. That guy would of shot him before he could of put a finger on that handgun. He actually s*** his pants over that expiereance. The guy had a meth cooking operation going on there in the woods.

The third incedent happened about a month & a half ago just out of Darrington on the way to Granite Falls. One of the old guys that has been trimming brush on the second logging road off the right side of the Loop Road was parked along the river there and was put walking his dog. When he got back to his car he was getting in when a big black guy came running acroos the road towards his car. He and his dog got in and he got the door closed & locked. This guy tried to break the drivers side door window with a good sized stick. He said he was so frieghened and nervour he couldn't get the keey in the ignition to start the car & get the hellout of there.
The guy turned around and ran back into the woods across the road when a pickup truck come upon the situation. He said if he would of had a gun he would of shot this guy.

Another incedent I read about it on another gun forum:
It went on to say that he was out target shooting and went to check his target when a guy came out of the woods, ran to his shooting table and loaded his gun and robbed him. His wallet, his cloths, his guns, his truk, EVERYTHING!

If he would of been carrying a handgun he could of maybe changed the out come of this incedent.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things happen out there in the wilderness, and it's not the animal factor you need to be worried about 99.9% of the time. I carry a handgun EveryDay/AllDay 365 days a year. You never know when stupid is going to come upon you, if your not prepared you will be on the loseing end of the stick.

I came upon an old beat up honda accord, WAY, WAY up in the hills south of Randle on an old logging road.  It was just parked there in the middle of the road.  It kind of skeeved me out, instantly.

Of course I was armed (G20).  I did not need a second thought to quickly turn around before I could find out anything more.  It could have been totally legit.  I did not need to satisfy my curiosity.

A keen awareness and a recognition that some people are just evil or desperate beyond civil conduct are handy in addition to a defensive weapon.

If you are looking for a personal defense and one for the woods you might want to consider this

Interesting. I've heard stories of groups of people hanging around known target shooting areas and attempting to steal guns. The other stuff about just encountering weirdos in the woods is another deal not unique to shooting. The bottom line is to keep one chambered.

Keep one chambered, be aware of the surroundings and be ready to counter react to the action of others.

Yesterday I went shooting up to Darrington off of 435th just past the Rodeo Grounds with a friend. Afterwards we stopped at the Golden Nugget Pawn Shop in Darrington. Taking with the old guy there and we got talking about incedents around that area. He said that he went grouse hunting on the C-Post area with his father a while ago and they happened upon a meth cooking operation. The guy pulled a gun on his father, which he pulled his gun on the meth cook. Long story-shot they meth cook got arrested and taken to jail, next day was out of jail on personal recognizance.
These people never do time for thier crime.
