Wyoming points on sale
« on: July 02, 2015, 11:31:04 AM »
Just a reminder that Wyoming bonus points are now available. I will be purchasing my deer, elk and antelope points again this year and hopefully starting to put my name in the hat next season

Got the points and was thinking 2016, but with the point creep I might be screwed for another year.  :dunno:

If you CAN hunt if drawn, I say apply because each year you don't or just buy points, you lower your odds even more. Point creep is inevitable but is even worse each year you don't apply.  :twocents:

I have a specific area I'm waiting for, there are so many other regular places (other states) we hunt I can't take on anymore, if I draw the specific hunt, then I make room for it.
For the point creep, eventually it will go the other way.

As far as the point creep in Wyoming, there are two big factors present, decrease in overall number of tags and well, more people buying points only and putting in for specific units. According to Guy Eastman, less than 15% of max point holders (9 this year) are actually putting in for tags and not "ghosting" points.

From a guy who drew a unit that required "1" point two years in a row (zero points that I had), I drew each year due to the random draw. Don't forget that a lot of units have at least one, and sometimes a lot (as in up to a couple hundred) random draw tags given to non-residents in that specific draw.

Another neat trick to consider is putting in for the "special tag" and lowering the number of points required to draw by one, two and sometimes 3 pref points. Most great deer units are 5 plus points, elk units are the same (this year that is).
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming
