Best tent I have owned for UL.

http://www.rei.com/product/865393/big-agnes-fly-creek-ul-2-tent#tab-specs

under 2.5 pounds, big enough to have my pack inside, and a roomy vestibule to boot.

I have a bivy that runs 1.8 pounds, but for the cost of a can of coke in terms of weight and size, I am hard pressed to not go with my fly creek given the benefits of room and cover.

It stands up without stakes (for the most part) which is nice as I can pick it up and shake the dirt out of it at the end of my trip.

I would also suggest the fly creek ul2. Great lightweight tent for one man or possibly two if you don't mind getting cozy.

I am really enjoying my MSR hubba hubba nx.
double vestibule, free standing, a little bit tougher materials than a few of the Big Agnes offerings, and the near vertical interior walls make it feel very roomy.
I am able to easily sleep in it with 2 people, so checking out the 1 person version (MSR Hubba NX) might also be a good option.
edit. i REALLY looked into tarp tents, or other trekking pole options, but I like to set up camp, and use my trekking poles when going off on day trips from base camp without having to tear down my tent and pack it up.

On the trekking pole issue I've just never found a use for them most of my hiking is off trail in steep and or brush busting areas where I need both my hands free also if hunting I may have a firearm in one hand. If I do go the tarp tent route I will make some custom shock corded poles that fold up or just make something on site against my previous comments. I am sure getting an education on UL shelters I had no idea what is out there.
The main reason originally for a new tent was to gain structure during rain storms without adding weight as for room in the cobra if my math is right I have 27sf. so no need for more room I have plenty. Now I need to look closer at the fly creek UL1, 2 and Tarp tent offerings if I stay at the 3# mark there is a few more tents like REI Quarter dome 2#-10, Sierra designs FL1 3# at  $219. and to think my first tent was almost 6# NF Salamander.

for what your going to use it for I would get a tent with a floor, any mentioned so far would be good, I would suggest comparing square feet, and head space. some 1 man tents have the same sq ft as some of the 2 man tents, that's why a lot of times you here of certain tents being way lighter than others

Wow I am really impressed by the BA Copper Spur UL1 its very comparable in size and very much a 3 season tent and still 12oz lighter than the Cobra 3.25# BA CS 2.5# I'm sure I could find it less than $369. thats where it starts to hurt$ so for the sake of economy I will research adding a sm. hoop and see what the wt gain comes out to first.

I have a gently used Big Agnes seedhouse 1 (2014 model) that I could make you a good deal on.  PM if you are interested.

I have the z packs triplex.  It's a smaller 3 man tent that weighs 26 oz with stakes.  I wont hesitate to take it on solo trips.  It's spendy but worked well in its initial trial run for me

Six Moons Designs Lunar Solo.  My favorite so far.  2 lbs.  I (6-4) can sit up in it!

 :yeah:

The six moons is money!  Handles high winds and heavy rain like a champ.  Can't say enough good stuff about the 6M...

I recommend the MSR Hubba NX or Hubba Hubba NX if you need more room.  I like the rain gutter design on the fly to prevent drips as you move in and out of the tent.  As others have mentioned, Big Agnes Fly Creek is a also an excellent option.

This is probably gonna be my big upgrade next year, I bought a marmot today cause I didn't quite have the funds for this one but it is under 3lbs and Sportsmans warehouse has it on sale for I think for maybe $269 or $289, I don't remember exactly. But either way it is like 2lb 9oz and lots of room and it packs less than half the size of most tents I have looked at.

I have a Tarptent Cloudburst 2, which weighs 2.5 lbs and is large enough for 1 person and quite a bit of gear.

I have used it in summer and fall conditions, for both river float trips and backpack hunting.  The mosquito netting is appreciated in both seasons in Western Washington.

Not a mountain tent, but definitely light weight.
