Replacing the keypad on a gun safe?
« on: September 22, 2025, 09:29:16 AM »
Anyone done this yet?  I have an older Bighorn gun safe and the keypad has quit working on some of the #'s. Has anyone replaced there keypad with an aftermarket pad? Did it work? The reason I ask is, the range in prices for a replacement, run from $50-300. Why buy a 300$ one, when a 50$ will work just fine.  Thanks in advance......

I'm a dial guy, but for electronic, SecuRam seems to be on the better safes.

Then it's a matter of features.  Most of us don't need multiple codes and date stamps.

I recently went through this with a keypad that completely died.  I had NW safe's install and new key pad and a new locking mechanism for about $450.  You could probably get away with a cheap one but if it ends up malfunctioning or locking you out you then have that do deal with.

Well now I'm having issues with my Securam keypad. What did you end up doing?

I ordered a spin wheel combination and replaced the electronic keypad assembly.  Was cheaper than a new keypad assembly and don’t have to worry about batteries.  It fit just like it was made for the safe and works just fine.  Only needed screwdrivers to replace.  Total time 45 minutes including setting the combo numbers.

I bought a safe that the key pad was intermittent. I called the safe company amd they said they warrenty them out for free even though i wasnt the original owner. I went with a dial instead of a keypad amd wasnt to bad to install. Made my own tool for lining up the outside with the inside
