Cargo trailer

I'm looking for a used cargo trailer to haul goose decoys in.
Preferably one with a wrecked hitch or axle, I just want the box actually.
I have a flat bed 6x10 trailer.  Figure if I had a cargo box, I could slide it on and tie it down during the season and slide it off when I wanted to use the flat bed.
Doing it this way would save the cost of licensing another trailer as well as not having to deal with trailer light issues on a second trailer.  I can also store my decoys and related gear in it year round.

Good Idea, bad idea, something I did not consider?

Might not be a bad idea.  The frame of the shell would have to be bolted on to the frame of the trailer then you can take bolts off after season.  Who knows how flat the shell frame would rest on the trailer?

Got out of the trailer long ago and now put 4 dozen goose deeks in Avery slot bags on top of laydowns under the canopy of my pick up.  Don't miss the trailer one bit after years of wishing I had one.

Some days we set as many as 10 dozen decoys.  While this is not always what we do and it's not always an advantage, there are times when it's the only thing that works.
I have a full size PU with canopy and can get maybe 4 doz/ w stands in with my low profile layout blinds.
The fewer rigs we have to run in on the field the better, especially on frosty or light snow days.  We seem to have more of those these days.
Over 30 yrs of hunting the buggers, I have found that the key to consistant success is in the details.  The less we impact the field the more natural it looks.

I would think it would be a hard task to find a shell.  If wanting to haul ten dozen I would be looking for the biggest single axle trailer on CL.  Or haul your flat bed out to the edge of the field and your buddies throw all their deeks and gear on the flat bed and then walk or ride to the middle of the field.

Everyone has their pet peeves about details and mine is mixing brands of goose decoys because they all look different and not natural. Never had much luck mixing brands either.  Disturbing the field mine is don't get a path going in the snow or frosted winter wheat and walk through the virgin areas as much as possible going to and from the spread. Not much else a person can do and have to deal with the rest.

  Have you looked at the plastic or wire bins similar to what Boeing gets for tools and parts? They are something like 48"x48". Would be easy to tie down and cover. Could then group your decoys together, leave certain ones home if not needed.

The other option would be to get one of those plastic/nylon tanks.  And cut a small access door to it.  It sounds redneck as all hell.  But a few years back I saw a guy make one into an ice shanty.  It was actually a really ingenious idea.

Cargo trailers are cheap, I'd just find a 6x12 and dedicate it to waterfowl.
