Idaho Questions
« on: July 09, 2015, 07:11:44 PM »
First off, I'm looking for all of your honey holes, gps coordinates and I want detailed maps with intel.

Now that some of you are scared off, here comes the story.

My brother in law is just getting to Mountain Home, where he will be for the next couple of years. How is the deer hunting in the general area? What are some units to consider? I'm mainly thinking OTC, so I can come down and hunt as well. We will be rifle hunting...He's pretty green, as in, the only hunting for deer he has ever done is Shotgun for deer in Wisconsin. He's never hunted mule deer and he is not by any stretch a trophy hunter.

He also has never been elk hunting, and we are searching for some info on that as well. Feel free to PM me. As some of you know, I do pay it forward with the "little" bit of info I have on Wyoming hunting.

Thank you in advance.
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

Go to Idaho for Wildlife on Facebook. Billijo, is an outfitter out of Salmon Idaho. She has that entire site FULL of info. I mean, LOTS. Get on it, like it and see what she comes up with. Just make sure you don't talk down to anybody, because I can bet you'd be gone fast. She's one helluva women, who has tons of advice and knowledge.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Units 39 and 43 are 2 of the most popular OTC deer units in the state due to proximity to boise/mountain home, yet both still have good trophy potential if you are willing and able to get away from roads and bike trails. 39 is also pretty popular for elk, but a sizable portion is special permit only. Unit 43 is part of the smoky Bennett elk zone and is permit only for branch antlered rifle hunting. I'll shoot ya a pm regarding some other less popular deer options.

Go to Atlanta and go up the Boise River trail.
Some beautiful country and plenty of room.
